LFL Convention in July?
Didn’t we just do this last November? Yep -- that’s right -- we did. There has always been a school of thought that if we had the national conference in the summer it would work for family vacations and maybe people would find it easier to come.

The first summer conference will be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, July 11-14. There will be trips to the Amana Colonies, tickets for the Imax Theater, museum tours and other family activities to keep everyone busy and happy. Of course there will be an outstanding selection of speakers and events to make your trip worthwhile.

Included in this Bulletin there is a brochure that describes the speakers and other events in detail. The popular youth track has returned for high school age. For younger children a day camp will be offered on Saturday. The children will spend all day “camping out” in the scenic areas near the city.

Look over the brochure and make your plans now. Let’s put LFL first in 2006.

High School Students’ Winning Essays
Following are some of the outstanding essays that were submitted for our writing contest each year. Students in Lutheran High Schools as well as all students of high school age who are members of a Lutheran Church are urged to write an essay on a sanctity of life related topic. This includes abortion, euthanasia, cloning, embryonic stem cell research, sexual abstinence outside of marriage and treatment of the handicapped.

This year we have a broad range of topics that offer thoughtful insights into these problems that our society deals with every day. Reading these papers can give us a great deal of assurance that the next generation of young people are maturing with a basic understanding of God’s Gift of Life and how we are to treat that gift.

All those who have their work published here are winners of a $100 award. All those except for one who has won the $1,000 grand prize.

Students are asked to use a combination of personal experience, God’s Word and other research where appropriate. Form and style are also considerations. The essays are judged by members of the Illinois State Board, volunteer pastors and others who have agreed to be readers.

The value of this project is shown in the words of one college freshman who returned to tell his teacher that the research he had done for this assignment made it possible for him to advise his roommate on life issues he faced (a possible abortion) and show him that choosing death is never the answer to life’s problems. Some of the winning essays will appear in later editions of the Life Bulletin.

Abortion

Five years ago my dad bought me a CD by a girl he had just seen perform at a youth gathering. Her name was Gianna Jessen; she was a survivor of abortion. I was younger and did not have a complete understanding of abortion. I just enjoyed her singing. Since I got that CD I have been able to see her in concert myself and I’ve been able to do some research on abortion. I’ve been horrified by the things I’ve learned and become more pro-life by the amazing things I’ve learned about an unborn baby. Above all, I have learned that abortion murders a living and developing child.

Abortion has been legal since 1973. The Supreme Court said that “protection need not be granted the unborn until they are capable of meaningful life” (Garton 39). The Supreme Court also gave criteria for when an abortion can take place; if the birth of the child would cause distress on the mother’s life, cause her embarrassment for being unwed, deprive her of her desired life-style or tax her on child care, the baby can be aborted (33). The criteria given makes almost any case arguable for an abortion and legalizes it as an option that many women give in to when dealing with a pregnancy. The Supreme Court, in my mind, is saying any child can be aborted as long as the mother can come up with an excuse that sounds “good enough.” The fact that the conceived child is alive does not even come into consideration.

A child is a God-planned project that begins at conception. Psalm 139:13-14 says “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb [. . .] I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Holy Bible). “The advances in modern science have established that the full DNA of a person is present from the moment of conception [. . .] from the very beginning a full human being is there” (Johnson). The DNA of a human being is the carrier of all human wisdom, which makes the child a self-evolving being and something having a DNA should be proof enough that at the day of conception that being is in fact a child; and destruction of that child’s life is murder. Yet doctors still promote abortion and mothers still give in to the so-called easy way out of pregnancy even if it is killing an innocent life.

By definition of the word alive, no one can justify abortion as being a non-murderous act. Alive means “that this being is growing, developing, maturing and replacing its own dying cells. It means not being dead” (Wilke 1). Throughout the whole nine months of pregnancy the child is growing and developing and maturing. In the first month of pregnancy, the baby has grown ten thousand times the size it was at conception; and by the third week the heart begins to beat (Watch Me Grow). By the second month brain waves can be recorded from the baby and internal and external organs are developing. In month four the baby’s brain has begun maturing. By the seventh month the baby is even able to recognize the voice of the mother and has a stronger grip than he or she will have after birth (Watch Me Grow). This baby meets all the requirements for being “alive,” yet the mother will still consider abortion and the doctor will still approve.

I read a newspaper article from a few years ago that stunned me with the information given. The title of the article was “Which is more valuable: An Unborn Eagle or an Unborn Child?” I answered this question from my point of view: the unborn child of course! That article told me I was wrong, “The Penalty for taking or destroying an eagle’s egg is $5,000 and one year in jail. But the penalty for taking an unborn child’s life is nothing.” (Lutherans for Life). In this Nation, we value a bird over the life of a child, the life of future generations, and the life of a treasured creation of God. Psalm 127:3 says, “Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord; and the fruit of the womb is His reward” (Holy Bible). Children are a gift of God and every year 1.5 million of these little gifts are selfishly killed (Lutherans for Life).

Despite the large numbers of abortions each year abortion is continually declining; women are recognizing the main choice they make is responsible decision-making before sexual activity takes place. They are also realizing that in abortion the life of the unborn child is being terminated, not just the pregnancy. Abortion is declining, but it is still one of the largest industries available in the U.S. and Satan is most certainly the god of this industry (Everet). God’s Fifth Commandment clearly says “You shall not murder” which is taking the life of another person. This definitely includes abortion and no one should be able to deny that. Psalm 127 says we should treat a child like the precious gift it is, a gift from God. Gianna Jessen supports that verse by saying people need to open their eyes to abortion because “A life is valuable. All life is a gift from our Creator. We must receive and cherish the gifts we are given. We must honor the right to life” (Gianna Jessen). Because I have been given the gift of life and some day I will also be able to bring life into the world and cherish it as the wonderful gift that it is.

My cousin Amy is loving, non-judgmental, and exuberant. She can encourage me when I feel disheartened and love me no matter what I do. She leads me to God when I stray and listens when no one else will. She always puts others first even before her own illness and sticks up for those who cannot help themselves. She is like an angel which works out perfectly because Amy is now in heaven. It has almost been a year since God decided her work on earth was complete and I still feel her presence in everything I do. I could never imagine my life without her in it and how she has touched my heart. This causes me to wonder how many angels in heaven right now have not been given that chance because they were aborted.

My cousin Amy was born with the disability called hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is an abnormal accumulation of cerebral fluid in the head which causes mental retardation and ultimately death, without a shunt. (Hydrocephalus Association). Hydrocephalus along with other genetic abnormalities can be determined by a pre-birth test called amniocentesis. (Connor and “Baby’s or Mother’s Health”). Since there are no known cures for many of these abnormalities, the mother is only left with a decision to be made (“Baby’s or Mother’s Health”). Due to the trial Roe Vs Wade, women have the right to legally abort their baby (Roe V Wade). These women must take into account that five percent of amniocentesis tests give false results. This amounts to 50 out of 1,000 babies being inaccurately diagnosed with disabilities (Connor). Statistically, this is considered a miniscule amount but when you consider these fifty lives could very well be aborted before they are allowed to take their first breath on earth, it is alarming. Even one life that was not allowed the chance to change the world is one too many.

The word disability is defined in the dictionary as “Lack of ability or power, something that disqualifies; make unfit for use or action.” In my opinion, this word is misleading. If you ever met my cousin Amy you would know she never had a lack of ability for anything. She participated in Special Olympics, raised money for more charities than I can count, sang in choir and had a job. Her faith was the most shining thing about her and she let others know she believed and would go to heaven to be with God. She accomplished more in 19 years than most people in their entire lives. This was never more apparent than at her wake when from 3pm-9pm the room was packed with thousands of people that she had somehow impacted their lives. Perhaps the greatest lesson she taught me was that everyone was equal. She had an innocent view on life and firmly believed that everyone was good from our pastor at church to the drug dealer in the street. She accepted everyone for who they were.

This begs the question, “Who are we to decide who is worthy or not to live? Who decides what perfection is and what we are to live up to? Is perfection physical or can it be inside as well?” In my eyes Amy was perfect. Maybe she could not be as independent as you or I but she lived as best she could according to God’s rule. She loved others much more than herself and she forgave when others did wrong. She never judged anyone or had an agenda. She saw the best in every situation and never complained, well, almost never complained. How can we call people like this “disabled” or handicapped?” Maybe we are the ones who have the disability. We are disabled to love all, think about others and see everyone equally. I know I do not always think about others or always put others first. How about you? The idea of never letting these children make a difference in the world is particularly disturbing. All humans have the right to decency and respect. Is killing a child because they do not live up to society’s ideal decent? As God said in Genesis 1:26-27, “God created all men in his own image . . . male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number.” God said he created all men in his likeness, not just the ones that we think are Worthy. There have already been millions of disabled babies aborted in this world who were not given the chance to touch someone’s life, just because they were deemed “disabled.” I thank God every night that Amy was brought into my life and I was touched by her. We should not see these children as “handicapped” but rather as “gifted.” They each have a special gift sent down from God to us. How can we abort that gift before we even open it?

God sent Amy down as an angel who would impact thousands of lives by either introducing them to God, strengthening their faith or giving them a more appreciative outlook. God sends each of these angels down for us to care for but also for them to teach us. As God said in Hebrews 13:2, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some have entertained angels without knowing it.”

Euthanasia: The Killing of Innocent Life

Lutheran High School

Little James’s parents had anxiously awaited the birth of their new son. Like all parents, they had high hopes for their little bundle of joy. His father had already bought a baseball glove, that wouldn’t even fit on his hand for another five years. His mother began saving for his college education when she was only two months pregnant. When James was finally born, and his father held him for the first time, he didn’t look to see if he had five fingers and toes. He didn’t weep with joy and declare that his child was perfect. As he stared into his eyes, a tear of sadness fell down his face. His dreams of professional baseball were only a distant memory. He stared into his baby boy’s eyes and silently listened as the doctor explained exactly what Downs Syndrome would mean for his child’s life. When the doctor explained that James also had a minor defect in his esophagus that would inhibit him from eating, his father contemplated the surgery he would have to go through. The doctor explained that the surgery would be minor and James wouldn’t experience a great amount of pain. James father could hear him cry in the next room. He slowly shook his head as the doctor asked him when he could perform the operation. James died several days later of starvation. Because of his Downs Syndrome, James’s parents didn’t believe his life was valuable. They thought they were doing him a favor. His parents’ decision to euthanize him by denying him the basic need to eat was upheld in court.

Too often, euthanasia occurs because someone has declared that a certain life is not worth living. Nancy Kassebaum, former Senator from Kansas, stated that there is no use in prolonging a life which is no longer a life (The Constitution: That Delicate Balance, The Sovereign Self: Right to Life, Right to Die) She equates life itself with her idea of physical normality. By making this statement, she has directly demeaned the sanctity of life for millions of people with disabilities. Mary Jane Owen writes “People with severe cognitive disabilities are devalued as lives not worth living. In truth, the lives of all of us with severe disabilities are often considered expendable.” (Grimstad13). In California, a boy with Downs Syndrome wasn’t given a vital heart operation, because his parents didn’t wish to continue his life. This child died, and his parents’ decision was upheld in court (Yount 138) When the state allows the disabled to be killed by euthanasia, it deprives them of the protection they’re entitled to under the law (140). It is the duty of the law to protect the weak. Father Robert Dirinam accurately states that “People are never ‘vegetables,’ that they always have a dignity as human beings.” (The Constitution: That Delicate Balance, The Sovereign Self: Right to Life, Right to Die) James Hoge, publisher of the New York Daily Times, said, “We’re not in the business of ending lives because it’s difficult or because a certain facet is gone (. . . ) Part of living is learning to cope.” (The Constitution: That Delicate Balance, The Sovereign Self: Right to Life, Right to Die)

Euthanasia, by definition an “easy death,” often causes the dying process to be more painful. The removal of a feeding tube is a common form of euthanasia. Feeding tubes provide basic nourishment for people who may not be able to swallow for themselves. “The nourishment provided through feeding tubes is real food and water, not ‘artificial nutrition and hydration,’ as it is often misleadingly called.” (Grimstead 11). Feeding tubes are often removed because a patient has a low quality of life, or is not dying on the timetable of doctors and family members (11). When feeding tubes are removed, patients will inevitably starve to death. This is not a quick and painless death. Dr. William Burke, a neurologist, describes death by starvation: “They will go into seizures. Their skin cracks, their tongue cracks, their lips crack. They may have nosebleeds because of the drying of the mucous membranes, and heaving and vomiting might ensue because of the drying out of the stomach lining. They feel the pangs of hunger and thirst. (. . .) Death by dehydration takes ten to fourteen days. It is an extremely agonizing death.” (11). This heartbreaking description is almost unimaginable. This is not the “easy death” promised by the word euthanasia. Removal of a feeding tube and dying by starvation cannot be seen as a humane alternative to the natural dying process.

The Bible supports the sanctity of life. It has clearly stated that God has not given humans the right to end life. In fact, the Bible states that a person’s body doesn’t even belong to him or her. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-21 of the New International Version it says: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” In addition to commanding against murder of other people, God instructs all people to take care of their bodies. God owns every person’s body. Father Robert Dirinam stated “(Through euthanasia) people are asserting what is God’s right alone.” (The Constitution: That Delicate Balance etc) The power to end life should lie only in the hands of God.

Euthanasia wrongfully declares that the killing of the weak is moral and correct. This form of killing is supposed to be merciful. Often, euthanasia is more painful than a natural death. This attempt to control life and assume a divine power kills innocent people. The disabled, elderly, and ill are the most at risk. Babies with Downs Syndrome, like little James, are at risk of death every day. The sanctity of life is destroyed when euthanasia is practiced. Our society, in its desire to control life, is creating a culture of death that our children and their children will be forced to handle.

The Negative Effects of Abortion

Grade 12
Metro-East Lutheran High School
Edwardsville, Illinois

In 1973, abortion was voted legal in the Roe versus Wade case, but the laws of the land are not right unless they follow God’s law first. Abortion can be defined as the deliberate act of taking the life of an unborn child. Pro-abortionists claim abortion to have only positive outcomes and few negative effects. Abortion certainly does not have positive outcomes, and there are many negative effects that can occur. The process of committing an abortion affects the unborn child, the parents and the society as a whole.

Abortion first and foremost affects the unborn child in the mother’s womb. Anyone not certain that a pregnant woman does not carry a second human life should give the life the benefit of the doubt. An individual would not bury a body if there was any uncertainty regarding if the human was dead or alive (Reagan 21). The definition of life is clearly stated in God’s word. An unborn child is a living human being from conception.

“For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one f them came to be.” (The Holy Bible. Psalm 139:13-16).

God expects all children to be born because He is the maker and creator of every child. (Orr, Schiedermayer and Biebel 57). A child in the womb can feel a touch and respond to pain. Abortion techniques used cause agonizing and prolonged suffering and death for the baby. Babies who survive late-term abortions usually are killed by suffocation, neglect or starvation (Reagan 31-32). Abortions most importantly hurt and kill the unborn child in a mother’s womb, and abortions also have a profound influence on the parents.

The second effect of abortion involves the parents of the aborted baby. The community is just starting to notice the lasting effects on both of the parents after an abortion (Klammer par. 3). When an abortion is referred to, an individual is talking about two lives -- the mother and the unborn child. A pregnant woman is called a mother because she has another life inside of her (Reagan 21). Abortion affects women physically, emotionally and spiritually. An abortion performed on a woman can case physical symptoms such as blood loss, shock, infection of the uterus, increased risk of breast cancer, greater risk of premature births, tubal pregnancy, sterility and damage to the cervix (Endres par. 2-4). Women and men who are parents of an aborted baby face many emotional effects, both immediately after the abortion and for many years to come. The emotional effects include feelings of guilt, remorse, post-abortion depression and painful memories along with upsetting dreams (Klammer par. 10-14). Other outcomes which are more serious include difficulty keeping close relationships, drug or alcohol abuse or suicidal ideas (Endres par. 5). Men have a hard time expressing their feelings after an abortion, but they usually feel some of the same emotions that women do (Klammer par. 2-3). “Abortion concerns not just the unborn child, it concerns every one of us” (Reagan 16). Clearly, abortion affects the unborn child, the parents and the society.

The third area affected by abortion is the society as a whole. When abortion-on-demand was legalized the value of life was questioned. Abortions wrongly grant people the right to play God and decide who is worthy to live and who should die.

“God places great value on us as individuals, and this is to be respected by men. Our worth is not based on what we do, how we look, or whom we know. Rather it is based on who we are, creatures made by God in His image. Regardless of our status in society, our health, or our deeds, there is a sanctity about our lives.” (Young 36).

The legalization of abortion has downplayed the sanctity of human life in the society as the weak and defenseless unborn children are murdered. When one category of human life is diminished, such as the unborn, the value of all human life is diminished (Reagan 18).

Abortion was made legal in the Roe versus Wade supreme court decision, but the case did not make abortion morally or biblically correct. Abortion has an everlasting effect on the unborn baby, the parents and the society as a whole. An unborn baby is a living human being, created by God, who can feel pain. Parents who experience abortions go through physical, spiritual and emotional negative outcomes. Society as a whole has decreased the sacredness and respect for human life because of abortion. Christians have a responsibility to be involved in pro-life activities and to pray. Abortion is not how God intended life to end.

Abstinence: The Safe Choice

Grade 12
Lutheran High School
Our Savior Lutheran Church
Springfield, Illinois

Young adults face many pressures and choices in today’s society. Teenagers choose to smoke marijuana, drag race automobiles, and participate in underage drinking every day in America. We, as Christian young adults know that these things are wrong, but are faced with other issues that are very tempting, and yet we know exactly what God says about them. Sexual abstinence is the proper choice for all young adults and anyone that is not married should make. Today’s media almost encourages pre-marital sex, but yet they don’t show all the consequences of this god-forbidden act. There are physical, emotional, mental, moral, social, and financial consequences to pre-marital sex. Abstinence is a spiritually rewarding and overall healthy choice for young adults.

God clearly states in verse twenty-nine of the fifteenth chapter of Acts, “You are to abstain from . . . and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.” Our religion takes an obvious stance on this topic; all people should remain abstinent until marriage. Kim Meyer, a registered nurse and also the parish nurse at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, Illinois, said, “God’s Word clearly states -- sex is for a husband and wife, and any other time it is sexually immoral.” In 1 Thessalonians 4:3 it says, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that is that you abstain from sexual immorality . . . “ (Why Wait?) Meyer also said, “A lot of young people today have the mentality of “It won’t happen to me,” (referring to contracting STDs and getting pregnant) but sex isn’t just about that, it is a life changing event because there is only one first time.” Many teenagers believe that sex is okay as long as you wear a condom or take birth control pills, but the church says that sex is a sin unless it occurs in the marriage bed. Meyer stated, “There is no such thing as safe sex, condoms do not make it right.” Our sexuality is a precious gift from God, not meant to be used outside of marriage (Why Wait?).

So many dangers are presented when young adults participate in pre-marital sex. One physical consequence of not abstaining from pre-marital sex is sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Approximately one in four young people will have an STD by the time they turn twenty-one (Teen Pregnancy and Parenting 77). Teenagers who participate in sexual activities think it can’t happen to them, but every year two and a half million teenagers are infected with some type of STD (Ayer 20). Although the media doesn’t talk about them, sexually transmitted diseases are quite popular. Nearly three million youth are infected with an STD (Teen Pregnancy and Parenting 81). Fifty percent of the sexually active single adult population has or will have at least one STD in their lifetime (Teenage Pregnancy 115).

Many problems are presented with sex before marriage. Some of these problems include: illegitimate births, poverty, abortions, and the general breakdown of the nuclear family. Despite all these problems, many studies today show that more and more teenagers and young people are participating in pre-marital sex. One report showed that over fifty percent of high school students are sexually active by the time they graduate (Teenage Pregnancy 117).

Young adults who abstain from pre-marital sex obviously avoid teen pregnancy. Many people have heard the common phrase, “If you play with fire, you will get burned.” The same goes for sex. One out of five teenage girls who are sexually active gets pregnant (Ayer 13). “Knowing that risk doesn’t stop the problem, it’s the moral issue,” commented Kim Meyer. Remaining abstinent is a test of a person’s values and morals. America is not suffering from a lack of knowledge about sex, but an absence of values (Teen Pregnancy and Parenting 79). Recent studies have shown almost two-thirds of Americans think the “Just Say No” campaigns are ineffective in preventing teenage sexual activity (82). Not just knowledge of the dangers of premarital sex is enough to change a person’s behavior (77).

According to the authors of Sex in America, the people who enjoy sex the most are the married couples with only one life-long sexual partner (Teen Pregnancy and Parenting 78). On this subject Meyer said, “God designed sex for a man and his wife, when they are married with one partner.” Many sources also state that remaining abstinent is a lot easier on you emotionally than being sexually active. (Ayer 20).

We as the young people need to realize that we don’t need to be pressured into committing the sin of sexual immorality. We also need to need to realize that sex doesn’t prove anything, especially love, to our partner (Ayer 8). When we choose abstinence we are obeying God’s command and we are also preventing ourselves from the many terrible consequences that come with losing that first time and not remaining abstinent. Kim Meyer summed everything up when she said, “God intended abstinence for young adults and anyone outside marriage.”

The Strength of a Choice

Grade 12
Willowbrook High School
St. John's Lutheran School
Lombard, Illinois

Twenty one years ago outside the city of Detroit, Michigan, a young woman gave birth to a beautiful and rambunctious baby girl. This baby was born into a family who loved her and who knew how special she truly was. She was born to a twenty year old college student, unmarried, but strong-willed. Not only was she a strong-willed woman, but she had beliefs. She had a belief in God and she knew that this child was God's creation. She taught me that belief also, because she is my mother, and the now twenty one year old woman is my sister and best friend. My parents taught me to believe that God created each human being and only God has the power to take that life away. Abortion was never a choice for my mom, it just was not right. After twenty one years of changes, advances, break-throughs, and moral change, the world is still missing the idea that it will never be right.

The world we live in has become a society when anything and everything is acceptable. America has come so far in our advances in computer technology, healthcare, and creating a stable nation, but it seems as though the United States took a step back in the Roe vs. Wade decision. Legalizing abortion is allowing any woman the right to kill another. If one man murders another, he is put on trial and sent to jail. How does it make it acceptable for a woman to kill another human being?

What so many people believe is the idea that an unborn fetus is not a living human being. People believe that the child is not a human being. Much like the murder of a man, aborting a child is another murder and is wrong. The Bible has proved any theory on this is incorrect. God chose each of us, he knew us before we were born, and he loves each one of us more every day. In Jeremiah 1:5 God says, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." He chose the moment we were created and we became his children. He knows us as the beautiful individuals he has created. President A.L. Barry of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod states in an article on what abortion is shows that the fifth commandment, You Shall Not Murder, clearly proves that because God has set us apart as his children it is considered murder to abort a child. God wants to travel with us each day, including those spent in the womb. So many question whether a fetus is truly a human being. According to the American Life League, by day two of a fetus' life it is made up of three cells and by day twenty-two the fetus' heart begins to beat, constituting that anatomically it is human ("Human Life in the Womb"). More importantly we are a child of God. We all begin as an innocent child brought into this world to hear God's word and see how much we are loved. No child should be denied the right to know their God because of someone's decision.

The doctrine taught in the Lutheran faith reveals to the world that God has a set plan for each of his children and although it may be rough and winding at points, he never allows us to stray too far from the correct path. God sees us through the blood shed by his dear son on the cross. Jesus' blood creates a screen through which our Lord sees us. He sacrificed his Son on the cross to create a better life for each one of his children. We should in turn be able to honor his devotion to us by holding the sanctity of human life in the highest regard. In Psalm 138: 15-16 is says, "My frame was not hidden from you, When I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they are all written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them." God has created a life of twists and turns, pain, heartache, happiness, new beginnings, and great achievements. He has promised to be with each of us and carry us when our feet can not quite hold us up. God created each of us with the ability to stand strong. In Isaiah 40:29-31 it says, "He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." By having an abortion a woman revokes the right of a child of God to come into a world and learn about their Father in Heaven. The child loses the ability to have strengths and weaknesses, he or she loses the chance to have a God who lifts us to our feet and strengthens us in our everyday needs. The child loses the ability to be able to know a powerful, compassionate, loving God, who in our time of greatest need stands with us to prove our own strength through him.

Twenty-one years ago, my mom gave my sister the opportunity to know a God who wanted to see her soar. Not only did she give my sister the opportunity, but she gave me one also. God sacrificed his Son to show just how much he truly loves each one of us, by giving the gift of life everyone has the opportunity to stand in God's light and be lifted in times of need.

Did You Know???
SB2267 has passed the Senate and gone to the House of the State Legislature. The wording of this bill is extremely alarming for any parent or responsible citizen concerned about the safety of our children. The measure changes the present wording that requires the schools to teach abstinence as the preferred and only certain method to avoid unwanted pregnancies and/or STDs. Under the new guidelines abstinence will not be mentioned. Instead "age appropriate" suggestions and assignments will be made that may have boys and girls going together to pick out condoms, experimenting with them in class and taking part in other classroom activities that can desensitize teens and undermine Christian moral teachings. Concerned Women of America has several examples of activities recommended as "age appropriate" under the programs the state would now be promoting. Check their web site.

It is imperative that we contact our state representatives immediately -- by phone, email or personally. Let them know we do not want this in our public schools. Your voice can make a difference. Identify yourself and the bill SB2267. We want a "NO."
