Life Lines for January 6, 2008

Since this is a presidential election year, there will be a lot of discussion about the devastating Roe vs. Wade decision of 1973. But, what is Roe vs. Wade and what does it really entail?
Roe vs. Wade was an historic and tragic U.S. Supreme Court decision which essentially overturned a Texas interpretation of abortion law and made abortion legal in the U.S. This decision meant that a woman, along with her doctor, could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without restriction, and with restrictions in later months. All this was based on the right to privacy.
All state laws that had previously limited a woman’s access to abortions during the first trimester of pregnancy were invalidated by this decision. State laws which had limited access to abortion during the second trimester were upheld only when the restrictions were for the purpose of protecting the health of the mother. The Doe vs. Bolton decision deemed it legal to abort a baby, at any time, for virtually any reason, right up until time of delivery. The Court said that abortion could be performed: ". . . in the light of all factors - physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s age - relevant to the well being of the patient. All these factors may relate to health." (This broad interpretation of a “mother’s health” included most everything except a hangnail). What I see as a real problem with these various reasons for an abortion include too many problems that stem from social reasons and not health reasons. Every OB doctor that I have ever questioned about “mother’s health” has yet to have a case of needing to abort a child in order to save the mother. The exception to that rule would be a tubal pregnancy which requires surgery and offers absolutely no chance for the child to survive. Roe vs. Wade legalized abortion in the United States, which previously was not legal at all in many states and was limited by law in other states. It is so very important that all Christians acknowledge and understand abortion for what it is and what it does. It is against the will of God. Life Lines for January 13, 2008

Last week I addressed the subject of Roe vs. Wade and what it means. This week is a continuation of that subject. The U.S. Supreme Court made a tragic and devastation decision, and most agree, an unconstitutional decision. But, what possible reason did the Court have for such a devastating decision? Well, it seems that Roe vs. Wade was decided primarily on the Ninth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, a part of the Bill of Rights. The Court’s decision in this case was that the Ninth Amendment, in stating that “the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people,” protected a person’s right to privacy. If you repeal Roe nothing happens. The overturning would just ALLOW states to make new laws. It does not make abortion illegal. It just lets the states decide. It goes back into the political process and to the states. What you would probably get is abortion available but with harsher restrictions, which more or less reflects the majority of Americans’ views. Some states would have easier, some stricter laws. There would be plenty for both sides to complain about and they could work through the democratic process to make changes. However, in our own state of Illinois, I predict little or no change in abortion laws with the current makeup of Democratic leadership in the majority.
Norma McCorvey, plaintiff in the case, was the Jane Roe alias on whose behalf the suit was originally filed, alleging that the abortion law in Texas violated her constitutional rights and the rights of other women. The defendant in the case was the DA of Dallas County, Texas, Mr. Henry B. Wade. The Doe of Doe vs. Bolton was Sandra Cano. Both Norma McCorvey and Sandra Cano have both become pro-life since the decision to allow the killing of the unborn.
Serving on the U.S. Supreme Court and members of the majority rule on the case were: Harry Blackmum, William J. Brennan, Chief Justice Warren Burger, William O. Douglas, Thurgood Marshall, Lewis Powell and Potter Stewart. The majority opinion was written by Harry Blackmum. Dissenting opinions were written by William Rehnquist and Byron White.

Life Lines for January 20, 2008

There are dates throughout American history which resonate with violence and destruction of human life. For instance: December 7, 1941, the attack on Pearl Harbor; November 22, 1963, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy; April 19, 1995, the Oklahoma City bombing and September 11, 2001, the terrorists attack on U.S. soil. Those who lived through the above mentioned events find it common to be able to recall exactly what they were doing when they heard news of the tragic events.
But, there’s a date in American history which signifies another devastating event. On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its ruling on Roe v. Wade. This divisive decision granted the “right” for a woman to kill her unborn child, a life that was growing within her.
January 22, 2008 marks the 35th anniversary of this devastating decision and the killing of nearly 50 million unborn children. Yet, even after 35 years, there are still people who remain blissfully ignorant of Roe v. Wade and the destruction it has wrought on our nation. The deaths of the unborn and the victims left behind far outnumber the total lives lost in all U.S. wars combined. Yet, many people fail to acknowledge the fact that Roe v. Wade sparked a war which has been raging for 35 years now. A war propagated by a culture of death, leaving behind a battleground strewn with the bodies of innocent human babies.
Medical technology has proven over the past 35 years that life, human life, beings at conception. New 4D ultrasound clearly reveals a human baby growing in the womb. Unfortunately, the U.S. Supreme Court has not kept up with the latest technological advances. Roe v. Wade ruled that babies in the womb are to be denied personhood, thereby they are denied their most basic right … the right to life.
As president of Lutherans for Life of Illinois I feel it is my most basic duty to help educate people on Roe v. Wade, on the abortion industry and all forces that threaten the sanctity of human life. There is power in knowledge and the more people who come to recognize the evil of the abortion industry, the faster our nation will turn from this senseless destruction of human life. The pro-abortion advocates are made up of mainstream media, radical feminists and liberal politicians do little to contain their zeal in supporting the right to kill unborn children. They may try to veil the language into phrases such as keeping abortion “safe, rare and legal” but it doesn’t change the fact that they favor allowing the killing of unborn children. They will celebrate January 22, 2008 as a measure of their success in a 35 year killing operation. The supporters of human life will view January 22, 2008 as a national day of shame and mourning the senseless loss of human life while praying for the day when our nation once again values all human life.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from the wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Life Lines for January 27, 2008

Is having a baby damaging to our planet? Well, some women think so and have taken drastic measures to ensure that they never have children. Meet Toni Vernelli who lives in the UK. At a very young age, Toni decided that she would never have a child because she believed it would do too much harm to our planet. “Every person who is born uses more food, more water, more land, more fossil fuels, more trees and produce more rubbish, more pollution, more greenhouse gases, and adds to the problem of overpopulation” she said. This is an extreme view for such a young person to have about their environment, but Toni, like so many other radical environmentalists, worships the earth as her religion. (God instructs us to be fruitful and populate the earth.) Toni searched for a doctor to sterilize her, but had difficulty in finding one who would perform the surgery on someone so young, 21 when she started searching. Despite birth control, Toni found herself pregnant at the age of 25 so she sought an abortion. She is quoted as saying, “I didn’t like having a termination, but it would have been immoral to give birth to a child that I felt strongly would only be a burden to the world.” What? It’s immoral to give birth to a child, but not immoral to kill that child? Finally at the age of 27 Toni found a doctor to perform the sterilization surgery on her. She met and married a man named Ed who shared her views on the environment. They lead a very nice lifestyle which they both attribute to not having children. They are both vegetarians and since they are childless, they can jet off to take nice vacations without increasing their carbon footprints. I guess in their way of thinking, it must all even out somehow. Toni and Ed are just an example of the so-called “forward thinkers” in the ways of protecting the planet. My personal opinion is that global warming is a hoax and man can never destroy this planet. Only God will destroy our earth at the end of the age. But, many people worship upon the altar of planet protection and environmentalism. God does indeed call each of us to be good stewards of all the gifts He has given us, including the earth upon which we live. But, do any of us think that God would expect an unborn child to be killed or for a couple to remain childless in a misguided attempt to save the planet? Certainly not! Over and over in scripture God expresses his love for all peoples, even the unborn. Scripture teaches us that children are a blessing from the Lord. Marriage and the procreation of children from that union are pleasing to God. Children are no more of threat to our environment than global warming is. We live in a fallen world full of sin and deception. We get off-track when we fail to put our trust in God. Instead we decide that we know what’s best for our own lives and those around us. But, God who loves life and wants all mankind to live with him in heaven for eternity sent his only son to die on the cross so our sins can be forgiven. Jesus died for LIFE, for us, and for the forgiveness of our sins. John 3:16. For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

February 5 is Super Tuesday … primary election day in Illinois and many other states as well.
It cannot be stated forcefully enough that the selection of the candidate in this election comes at an extremely crucial and pivotal point in our nation’s history. We are so very close to having Roe v. Wade struck down and it all depends on who is chosen as president in November of ’08. But, to get to that point, we must first select a candidate to represent our values in the fall election. First and foremost we must acknowledge and appreciate the power of America’s voters. We must pray for guidance, know the candidate and VOTE! Learn where the candidates stand on principle … what are their core values and beliefs. What will we do as voters if we find ourselves faced with two candidates in November who both support abortion? Ask yourself “who will most likely limit the evil act of abortion” and then prayerfully make your decision. We must all realize that our one vote does make a difference. We must remain loyal to Jesus in all of our choices, and finally, help get out the vote. Keep in mind that all Americans have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But without protecting all Americans, born and unborn, with the first right, all others are moot. All political issues have to be considered in elections. But, not all issues have equal weight in the minds of voters. The issues that directly violate the human’s most fundamental right, the right to life, are the equivalent of building your political issues on a house of sand. Abortion is a human rights issue, not an issue of choice. Vote your conscience and restore our nation to a culture of life.

God’s Word is Life!
Christians believe that there is no greater power than the Word of God. God gave us His Word and sent His son in order that we might all have Life. Lutherans for Life has developed a new program to help all Christians win the battle for the sanctity of human life. “Renewal for Life” has already been launched in a few pilot congregations and is scheduled to be launched in all LCMS congregations no later than the fall of 2008. With “Renewal for Life” we will be called to renew our strength and be given tools in the battle against abortion and all the evils that surround the culture of death. More details of this exciting new program will be shared in the coming months. Watch for it!

Life Lines for February 17, 2008

We are now in the season of Lent and are reminded of our baptism and look forward to the promise of Easter. Baptism is the forerunner of our promised eternal life with God. Eternal means it will never end, but it also promises that we will share in quality life with God forever and ever. As we walk this Lenten journey, we should be more alert to the attacks on human life. We should reject the devil and all of his evil works and ways. Pro-abortion and the so-called right to die are two examples of Satan’s empty promises. Baptized believers in Christ should firmly reject these evil deeds and look to God to lead us to a deeper conviction in the sanctity of human life. Abortion is not a “right” but clearly a “wrong” in the eyes of God and the hearts of all believers. Pray for those who are contemplating an abortion or suffering as a result of having had an abortion. Ephesians 4:17-24. So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Life Lines for February 24, 2008

Repentance is one of the themes of the Lenten season and to repent is to turn away from the path of sin. But, it is not possible to repent of a sin that we do not even acknowledge as sin. We must ask God to forgive our sins, even our hidden sins. Abortion is clearly a sin when we consider that the injustice of this act has been proclaimed as a “right” and a legitimate “choice.” Even respectable elements of society such as our own U.S. Supreme Court, many medical associations, liberal politicians and even a few Christian denominations insist on calling abortion a “right,” and find it impossible to see abortion as always “wrong.” It’s up to God’s people to educate supporters and believers of abortion to see how wrong it is to kill the unborn. Let our prayer be that the light of truth will shine and expose the evils of abortion to everyone and the killing of the innocents will halt. Isaiah 9:2. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

To take a stand on an issue, especially a controversial issue, is not always a pleasant experience. To stand up for the rights of unborn children often brings about unwarranted criticism and ridicule, even from our friends and fellow worshipers. Those who believe that assisted suicide and abortion are terribly wrong often sin with thoughts that we feel that our friends and fellow worshipers should be helping in the fight for a culture of life, not hindering the efforts we are making by remaining silent. In our nation today, abortion, assisted suicide and euthanasia are threats to human dignity by directly attacking life itself, the fundamental right that all humans should enjoy. A culture of life begins with the protection of the innocent from direct attack and extends to defending that life whenever it is threatened. The direct and intentional killing of human life from the moment of conception to natural death is always wrong and must always be opposed. If you believe this to be true, join Illinois Valley Lutherans for Life on Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Chapin. The program for the evening will be revealing details on the new “Renewal for Life” program through national Lutherans for Life. Everyone is invited to hear about this exciting new way to battle abortion. Don’t just sit back and let others fight the battle for life for you. Psalm 1:1-2. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Life Lines for March 9, 2008

Her name is Haleigh Poutre and she is from Boston, MA. Haleigh represents a case of barely escaping being another victim of euthanasia. Haleigh had apparently been abused for years by both her mother and step-father and by the time Haleigh was 14 years old, the MA Dept. of Social Services took custody of her after she had once again been hurt by child abuse. While in the care of DSS, Haleigh fell into a deep coma and doctors had declared that Haleigh was “brain dead.” DSS asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. But, thanks be to God, Haleigh started responding, talking and interacting with people before DSS completed its mission of death. She responded in spite of the position of DSS that Haleigh had “the least amount of brain function that a person can have and still be considered alive.” State officials also stated that a brain injury and stroke left “the child with no hope of any meaningful recovery.” Well, it seems that God had other plans for Haleigh. Clearly Haleigh’s case is another where a life and death decision was based solely on the “quality of life.” Dr. Wesley Smith stated, “Accepting the ‘quality of life ethic’, which is promoted so heavily among bioethicists, led to the Department of Social Services and the Supreme Court of Massachusetts to approve taking the young girl’s food and water away.” No thanks to the experts, Haleigh is now in rehab and talking. Cases like this happen every day in our nation … few make the news. Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked (Psalm 82:3-4).

Life Lines for March 16, 2008

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday. Jesus made his triumphant journey to Jerusalem, knowing full well what the week would bring and how it would end. (Matthew 16:21. From that time on, Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.) He knew he would go to Jerusalem to be crucified, and yet he still went. Why? For Life! (John 5:24. I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.) This is the Word of God. This is the Word of Life. There is no excuse for abortion … none. It is a sin for everyone involved in the process. But, thanks be to God that forgiveness is a blessing from God. In this Lenten season of repentance, we can see our sins for what they are, going against the Word of God. But, repentance leads us from death into Life. Let us pray that the Word of Life will touch the hearts of our nations leaders and end abortion and euthanasia in our country.

Life Lines for March 23, 2008

Have you ever stared in awe at the beauty of the Grand Canyon or the majesty of Mt. McKinley? Have you ever wondered at the puzzle behind the great Pyramids? I’m sure we have all been impressed by the sheer beauty of so many places in our world. But how many of us have thought about the human body and what a marvelous, intricate creation it is? David knew as we read in Psalm 139: 13-14. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Our bodies are made up of millions of cells, all working together in one unit. God arranged the cells in our body, each and every one, just as He wanted them to be. There are many cells, but one body. God has also arranged the cells in unborn children, from the very moment of conception, just as He did for His own son, Jesus. Medical technology has allowed us to witness the wonders of a child’s development through sonograms. To anyone who has seen a sonogram of an unborn child, there is no doubt that they are looking at a human baby. But, with abortion, (“choice”), "death with dignity," and doctor-assisted suicide, the current social acceptance of these practices exposes our culture's confusion about what it means to be human. Society has assumed the practice of deciding the value of a human life. Elimination of a life unworthy is brought about by means such as abortion and euthanasia. God’s power has been set aside by man’s decision to assume he knows what is best. But, Isaiah 55:8 tells us, My thoughts are not your thoughts, and my ways are not your ways. God is the giver of life and He values each and every life as His own precious child. In fact, He values our lives more than that of His own son who He sent to die in our place for all of our sins. Romans 8:32. He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us allhow will He not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Now, here’s the rest of the story. After the physical and verbal abuse heaped upon Jesus resulted in His death, He rose again in victory over death. He had paid the price for our salvation. But, it doesn’t stop there. Jesus also told us in Matthew 28:19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All nations include all humans. Pray for an end to the culture of death that has taken over our nation. Use the gifts God has given you to press forward in educating the citizens of our nation in the evils of abortion and euthanasia. Thanks be to God for the progress we are making, but the battle is far from over.

Life Lines for March 30, 2008

A new documentary titled “Demographic Winter” focusing on the under-population crisis around the world has been recently released. European nations have witnessed births at below replacement rates, and abortion is the sole reason that the population of Russia has been decimated. Nations such as Japan have been unable to support their aging population. This documentary highlights the catastrophic consequences of rapidly falling birthrates. The Heritage Foundation states that “worldwide, birthrates have declined by 50% in the past half-century and there are 59 nations, with 44% of the world’s population, with below replacement birthrates.” It is estimated that by the year 2030, the birthrate in Europe is expected to have a shortfall of 20 million workers. In Russia, where abortion has been used as a means of birth control for decades, that nation is expected to lose one-third of its current population by 2050. "The ongoing global decline in human birthrates is the single most powerful force affecting the fate of nations and the future of society in the 21st century," says demographer Philip Longman in the film. The U.S. is not immune from the same problem. 50 million babies have been killed in the womb since 1973. Those are humans who would have been active in our workforce, paying taxes, purchasing goods, and caring for the elderly citizens. Sacrificing the unborn in the name of “choice” is a blight on the entire world and the act of abortion is against the very Word of God. Genesis 9:1. Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.”

Life Lines for April 6, 2008

Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest provider of abortions, has reported over $1 BILLION dollars in income for the annual report covering 2006-2007. Planned Parenthood also spews forth propaganda stating the advances their organization has made in health care services and sex education. But the truth is, Planned Parenthood is performing more abortions than ever! This organization targets our black community for abortions. This organization is lax in reporting sexual crimes against children. This organization received over $336 MILLION dollars from our government through taxes paid by hardworking, many pro-life Americans. If you are outraged by the taxpayer funded killing of babies in the womb, do something about it. Pray for the pro-life groups who work tirelessly to bring about and end to this senseless killing. Help to support these pro-life groups with your gifts of time, talent and money. Help put an end to the killing of America’s unborn. Proverbs 4:25-27. Let your eyes look straight ahead and your sight be focused in front of you. Carefully walk a straight path, and all your ways will be secure. Do not lean to the right or to the left. Walk away from evil.

Mark your calendars for a very important date coming up soon! Saturday, May 17 is the annual WALK FOR LIFE fundraiser for our local Pregnancy Resource Center. The Walk will be held at Jacksonville’s Community Park with registration beginning at 9 a.m. This is an extremely important year for the Walk for Life and the need for funding is critical. Because of the scheduled demolition of the current building housing the Pregnancy Resource Center, a new location is essential for their continuing ministry. They may have to re-locate as soon as July, but absolutely no later than November of this year. This ministry has been a part of the Jacksonville community for over 20 years now, helping women and children in need. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Tuesday, May 6, 7 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Illinois Valley Lutherans for Life will have a special guest speaker. Carl Schroeder, an attorney from northern Illinois will speak on end of life issues, advanced directives including medical power of attorney and living wills. It is so important that we be educated and armed with all of the facts so we can act on our end of life wishes without the fear of government or medical facility interference. Plan now to attend this meeting as it is appropriate for all age groups.

Life Lines for April 27, 2008

By now we have all heard about the famous statement made by Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama concerning his daughters and the possibility of making a mistake and getting pregnant at a young age. When he first uttered the statement, he referenced the age 16 and how he wouldn’t want them punished with a baby or an STD, so he would support them having an abortion. (Killing his grandchild by the way). When questioned later about that statement, he lowered the age to 12 or 13, I guess to make it more rational but I’m still pondering that change in his statement. I find it disturbing that he would use his daughters as the example in his scenario, and then to use the words “punished with a baby” even more disturbing. He would rather they abort his grandchild than deal with the consequences of their actions. I wonder if he stopped to think that since they are residents of Illinois, they could abort his grandchild without his knowledge because he voted AGAINST the parental notification law for minors while serving as senator in the state of Illinois. (The parental notification law was passed in 1995, but because of rules negotiations, it is still not enforceable, which is just another disturbing fact about abortion laws in Illinois). I have these words for Barack Obama. Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a person, but eventually it ends in death.” For those who are facing an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy I share these words. Romans 8:28. “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, those whom he has called according to his plan.”

Life Lines for May 4, 2008

Her name was Dorothy Dixon and she died on January 31, 2008 in Alton, IL. Few will remember Ms. Dixon in the years to come. She didn’t write a best selling novel, nor win a political office. She wasn’t a famous actress, nor was she a scientist. She was just an ordinary person, pregnant, and trying her best to keep a roof over her head and that of her 1 year old son. What is newsworthy about this woman’s life was actually her death. She was a prisoner in her own home, locked up most of the time in a dark, cold basement with little to eat and no clothing to keep her warm. Her tormentors were led by a 35 year old woman and five accomplices ranging in age from 43 to 12. Ms. Dixon’s monthly income was pocketed by the six tormentors, giving little of it to Ms. Dixon. Instead, the six tormentors used Ms. Dixon for target practice with a BB gun which led to over 30 BB’s being lodged in her body upon her death. Her pitiful pregnant body was beaten, tortured, forced to run naked inside the house, scalded with hot liquids and starved. After reading this story I asked myself how God could allow this to happen? I searched His Word and found that evil entered that house in the form of six people who went about the work of Satan. They had free will and chose to perform heinous acts upon another human who they saw as having an unworthy life. Sin is the choice of man, not God. I feel compassion for all of the suffering that this woman endured prior to her death, and the death of her unborn child. I pray God took her home to be with him and put an end to her suffering. But we must also look to the tormentors in this case. I felt disgust when I read the news story about Ms. Dixon’s torturous death and I wanted the tormentors to pay. Genesis 9:6. "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man. But, I also feel that we must pray for the souls of these lost people that they not only pay for their sins, but that they come to faith in Jesus. John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The sad story of Ms. Dixon’s death is only one example of what happens hundreds of times per day in our nation. Why? Because too many have chosen to view life, especially human life, as being unworthy and dispensable.

Today is the day we set aside to honor our mothers who gave us life, loved and nurtured us and made many personal sacrifices for us. God looks upon motherhood in a distinct and special way, unlike the worldly view that modern feminism has wrought. God created woman to be merciful by nature as He made man to be a protector by nature. In Isaiah 66:13 we read “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” Also, 1 Thessalonians 2:7 tells us “We were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.” The Bible also gives many references to the way God is involved with women and their pregnancies. Genesis 21:1-2 “The Lord came to help Sarah and did for her what He had promised. So she became pregnant.” Genesis 30:17 says “God answered Leah’s prayer. She became pregnant…” Based on just these few verses, we know that God wants a culture of Life because of the very nature He placed in woman to bear and nurture life and in man to be the protector of life. Intentionally aborting a child is an unnatural act against the very essence of being a woman and the way God created the first woman, Eve. John 1:1-4 tells us “He (Christ) was in the beginning with God. Everything was made by Him. In Him was Life and the Life was the light of mankind. ALL things were made by God, including the tiny human in the womb. Martin Luther left no doubt about how he viewed the sin of abortion. “There should be no trifling with those who are pregnant, but they should be objects of constant care. Those who have no regard for pregnant women and do not spare the tender fruits are murderers.” Thank your mother today for giving you the gift of life.

For those involved in the pro-life campaign, positive results seem to be just beyond our grasp. But, in reality, we are making significant strides in educating our society about the evils of abortion and the killing of the elderly and/or disabled. The United Methodist Church at a recent gathering of the United Methodist General Conference adopted several petitions recognizing the sanctity of human life. The delegates voted to encourage the assistance of crisis pregnancy centers and to also support adult notification and consent when a minor seeks an abortion. These are baby steps, but baby steps in the right direction. We all need to pray for these positive steps in our journey to defend and protect the ‘least of these,’ the unborn child. God’s Word calls each of us to uphold the right to life. Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked (Psalm 82:3-4).

The dark history of the shameful movement underpinning the biggest human atrocities of the 20th century was powerfully outlined by Ben Stein in his important documentary which is a must-see for anyone serious about science, about faith, and about freedom.
Stein followed the scientific community’s lockstep loyalty to Darwinism backwards in time, and ended up at the Nazi gas chambers, which first killed disabled people. They were just practicing Darwinism, by speeding up the process of natural selection, formerly called survival of the fittest, by eliminating “useless eaters”. Society bought into this toxic mentality because it came from doctors and scientists.
He followed their trail to Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, who was a dedicated eugenicist, working overtime to rid the world of people that she deemed as unworthy of life. While she was ostensibly offering women choice, secretly she was seeking to rid American society of the ‘unfit’ (as she saw them), thus we got more Darwinism in action. We are still in the midst of the nightmare of Sanger’s legacy; 50 million Americans have died of abortion, surpassing the darkest dreams of Hitler and Stalin together. My hat is off to Mr. Stein for bringing the dark side of evolution and Darwinism onto the big screen for the world to see. Ephesians 5:8-11. “you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

Popular culture is blindly embracing science and ignoring legitimate moral concerns. Human dignity is steadily being eroded in the pursuit of the "advancement of science" and the quest for "cures." Increasingly, we are losing our common understanding of what it means to be a human being, and the idea that human beings are something "special" is rapidly becoming an antiquated notion. Science is unquestionably a worthwhile pursuit, but many have come to view science as an end unto itself. The unbridled pursuit of science and technology is glorified, and any who suggest constraining science within limits of morality or propriety are condemned. Raising the simple question of whether something should be done is considered taboo. Radical science advocates are only interested in whether something can be done. Central to the "science without limits" view is the notion that man is merely an animal, the product of random chance. God is removed from the creation equation and the notion of moral truth is abandoned. Notions of right and wrong are relegated to the spheres of theology and philosophy and do not constrain the consciences or actions of radical scientists. This notion is evident in the movie “Expelled” which I highly recommend that everyone view. Ben Stein has done an outstanding job at exposing those in the field of science who have a god of the theory of evolution. These evolutionists have invaded our educational institutions and are spreading their anti-Christ propaganda at an alarming pace, knocking off all who get in their way. Christians need to recognize such evil and speak out against it. 1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

Life Lines for June 8, 2008

Her name is Kristi Burton and at the age of 13 she began her crusade for the pro-life movement in her own high school, speaking out on pro-life issues.
Now at the young age of 20, she is already making her mark in the pro-life camp nationally. Burton’s belief is that personhood lies at the very core of life issues. She has asked, ”If unborn children aren’t humans, what are they?” She began her work by speaking with a friend who was an attorney. She was counseled that what was needed was a constitutional definition that laid down a principal of law, that an unborn child is a human being, with all the rights our society grants a human being. Burton stated, “No one should be able to kill someone just because they feel like it … we wouldn’t allow that with anyone but the unborn.” And that’s how it all started. Gov. Mike Huckabee supported Burton’s amendment and launched attention to it nationally, helping to get the message out. The Personhood Initiative has caught fire and turned into a movement. It was reported that the members of Colorado for Equal Rights have more than the required 76,000 signatures needed to get the personhood proposal on this November’s ballot. Burton stated that “This amendment will establish a cornerstone for protecting human life in our society … and we all know this is the right thing to do. We are giving Colorado voters an opportunity to vote their conscience and protect the most innocent and helpless ones among us.” But, they will be facing an uphill battle as the pro-death supporters are lining up to stop this amendment in its tracks. Let us pray for a positive outcome on the side of protecting the unborn and the work of Ms. Burton. Psalm 145: 17-20. The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his work The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

The longing for community and family is strongly present in each of us. We want to connect, to belong, to know where were came from. So where does pregnancy resulting from sperm donation fit into this premise? The United Kingdom is considering a new law which will strip away the legal need for a father. Birth certificates will simply reflect Parent A and Parent B. (Well, this makes it much more appealing to single women and/or a lesbian couple now doesn’t it?) But doesn’t it also send a clear message to society that fathers are not important? And what is the far reaching effect going to be on the children? I tend to think that these children are going to need help to manage their way through periods of confusion and even despair as they attempt to gain their own sense of identity and belonging. Dr. Robert Nachtigall, a San Francisco fertility doctor was quoted as saying, “Let’s fact it; donor gametes is an experiment … This is a huge social experiment mediated by technology. Who knows how it’s going to turn out?” These are not words of promise or comfort coming from someone prominent in the field of sperm donors. This is also contrary to God’s plan for mankind. God intended that pregnancy occur within the bond of marriage between a man and a woman -- who are married to each other. God commissioned the human race in Genesis by the proclamation that Adam and Eve were to multiply and replenish the earth. Furthermore, according to the Bible, pregnancy is to occur between the man and a woman who are married to each other. Sexual relations outside of the marriage relationship, is defined rape, adultery, or fornication. God condemns these as being morally wrong and thereby sinful. Therefore, the very act of becoming pregnant by sperm donor is not in accord with the will of God. Furthermore, children from such an act will more than likely feel a loss of identity or of belonging, fueling emotional problems. God made it clear that a father and a mother were to raise children and the Christian father is really the instrument in God's hand in this matter of fatherhood. Thank God for the gift of our fathers, and honor them on this special day.

All true Christians would agree that life is the most precious gift that human beings have been given. Just the chance to be alive on this earth and play a part in the grand scheme of God's eternal plan is a privilege indeed. The Bible clearly teaches that all life is of infinite value, regardless of its duration or quality, because all human beings are made in the image of God. Yet, despite this, there are times when life becomes so difficult or unbearable that people have tried to deal with these problems without God's guidance and leading. Seeing a loved one suffer, where a doctor has pronounced there is no hope for them to live, is one of those issues. Karen Weber, a Florida woman who suffered a stroke in December presently has a feeding tube. And just like Teri Schaivo, Karen’s husband wants to have the feeding tube removed because he claims she is in a persistent vegetative state and will not recover. Karen’s family however is fighting to save Karen’s life and says she is alert and responsive. Like Teri Schaivo, Karen is unable to communicate her own medical treatment wishes and has not advance medical directive to instruct family and doctors. Both sides are battling in court and a judge has issued an injunction prohibiting the removal of the woman’s feeding tube while a committee decides her competency. Please pray for Karen that she does not suffer the same painful death experienced by Teri Schaivo and so many others in our country. Deuteronomy 30:19-20. This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Life Lines for June 29, 2008

A very common medical practice of withdrawing food and water from patients who are deemed terminal or in the so-called vegetative state happens daily in this country. Many doctors describe this method of dying as a gentle, painless process claiming it doesn’t involve any pain. But, according to Dr. David Stevens, death by dehydration is a cruel, inhumane, and agonizing death. Dr. Stevens claims that most so-called experts have never witnessed someone die under such circumstances. But, Dr. Stevens who worked in Africa for 13 years has witnessed hundreds of cases of death in children and adults from dehydration due to gastroenteritis. Here is his account of death by dehydration. First comes extreme thirst, dry mouth and thick saliva. The patient becomes dizzy, faint and unable to stand or sit; develops severe cramping in the arms and legs as sodium and potassium concentrations in the body go up and fluids go down. Patient can not produce tears, develops severe abdominal cramps, nausea and dry-heaving as the stomach and intestines dry out. Skin and lips are cracking and tongue is swollen as the skin loses elasticity, thins and wrinkles. The hands and feet become cold as the remaining fluids in the circulatory system are shunted to the vital organs in an attempt to stay alive. The patient develops severe headaches and the brain starts to shrink from lack of fluids. If the patient is lucky, they may lapse into a coma at this point, but often times they will develop seizures before the coma overtakes their body. The blood pressure drops to a nearly undetectable level and the heart stops pumping. This process is slow, taking many days before death occurs. This is how Teri Schiavo was killed and how people are killed every day in our nation. But an 11 year old girl named Haleigh Poutre managed to escape this torturous form of death. Haleigh was admitted to a hospital in MA in Sept. 2005 because she had been viciously abused. The state eventually took custody of Haleigh and doctors indicated that she would not recover. Officials asked the MA State Supreme Court for permission to remove food and water and end her life. However, Haleigh fooled everyone and started a strong recovery. She used simple words and hand gestures to try and indicate what had happened to her to bring about such an injury. Most of us have never heard Haleigh’s story because it certainly wasn’t highlighted in the media … and won’t be. Otherwise, some might be made to admit that a wrong conclusion was reached in the case of Teri Schaivo and many more like her. Haleigh is now in rehab and awaiting the trial of her stepfather, Jason D. Strickland, who assaulted Haleigh and pushed her down a flight of stairs which resulted in her current medical condition. The lesson to be learned here is to not blindly accept what medical professionals suggest as the answer to a patients medical problem. They are human and capable of making mistakes too. No thanks to the state of MA, Haleigh lives, is in rehab and making progress. Everyone should have an advance medical directive regarding their own wishes on medical care. Matthew 25: 34-40, "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

Two days ago our nation celebrated birthday #232 as Independence Day. But are we still a nation founded on the principles of Christianity and freedom? I believe that we are fast losing the very freedoms that our nation was founded upon. We are to be tolerant of all peoples and all religions with the exception on Christianity in today’s world. God has been pushed aside in favor of the religion of freedom to kill the unborn, global warming, homosexuality, corruption in government, etc. God is not welcome for the most part in America anymore and has been replaced by a culture of death via abortion, assisted suicide, court ordered killing of the disabled, killing embryos for research and on and on. Some in this nation love to suppress the word of God and go their own way. The bible tells us that the work of Satan is to destroy and undermine God’s gift of life wherever he can. John 10:10; The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. We need to return to the word of God and the wisdom of our founding fathers so we can once again become a nation that loves and respects life. Our forefathers continually acknowledged that God had made and preserved our nation. They were confident that God was blessing their endeavors because they acknowledged Him and sought His aid in all their doings. They warned future generations that the day that God was not earnestly revered in America, she would become a by-word among other nations. Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “Can the liberties of this nation be secure when we have removed the conviction that these liberties are a gift of God?”

The popular and moving pro-life movie “Bella” has a new chapter unfolding nationwide. It has been turned into a novel that is available in bookstores across the country.
The movie “Bella” earned more ticket sales per theatre than some of the most popular movies of the season. After going to DVD “Bella” became the most popular pre-sell in its category at Amazon.com. And now, it is available as a novel written by Lisa Samson. The book allows “Bella” fans to dig deeper into the characters of the story. Included in the novel is a look behind the scenes with photos from the film, a reading group guide and a note from the author, Lisa Samson. This book or the DVD of the movie makes a great educational tool on the evils of the abortion industry. God wants us to speak out in defense of the weak and helpless. Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked (Psalm 82:3-4).

Planned Parenthood is at it again with deception and lies in order to put up yet another killing facility for the unborn. This time they purchased property in the Cincinnati, OH area under the fictitious name of Auburn Avenue Parking. The same tactic was used in Aurora, IL (Gemini Office Development) and Denver, CO (Fuller38) to obtain property for abortion centers without tipping off public officials and pro-life supporters in advance. But, this time vigilant pro-life forces discovered the deception and are gearing up for an all-out fight against this new PP facility. The property purchased under the name of Auburn Avenue Parking in the Cincinnati area just happens to be near Western Hills High School that has a student population that is predominantly African American. Coincidence? I think not! PP has historically and still does target minority populations for its “family planning” services including abortion. This is well documented from several sources. Planned Parenthood is headquartered in New York City and just recently, they were caught on video and audio accepting donations from a transparent racist. In fact, the Planned Parenthood representative was “excited” to accept the donation and agreed with the racist donor that there were too many Blacks. The legacy of wanting to rid America of Blacks started with Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger who once wrote “We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” These words are not meant to offend, but to educate caring people on the evil empire known as Planned Parenthood that has been built on the slaughtered lives of the unborn. Christians must speak out and take action now. Jesus died on the cross and rose again for Life! For our lives! 1 Corinthians 6:20. You were bought for a price. God hates the taking of innocent life, all life. Take a giant step of faith right now and commit to helping educate and expose the evils of abortion. Isaiah 58:11 The Lord will continually guide you and satisfy you even in sun baked places.

The Born Alive Infants Protection Act signed into law by President Bush in 2002 is a great piece of legislation and was brought about the efforts of Jill Stanek. Stanek was once a nurse at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL (near Chicago) and became a major player in the battle against abortion about 10 years ago when she shockingly discovered that babies that were ‘accidentally’ born alive (when death via abortion was the intent) were placed in a closet until death occurred. Stanek recognized that these babies lacked any definitive legal rights and protection so she set out to change that. She testified to the US House Committee in 2000 and 2001 on behalf of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. Her moving testimony highlighted this practice in graphic ways to lawmakers and helped pass a federal law defining that a baby who is born alive is in fact a person deserving respect. The challenge facing Stanek and all pro-lifers is that the legislation is not worth the paper it’s written on without enforcement. It’s been discovered that there have been countless violations of the BAIPA since it was signed into law in 2002. Stanek is now offering suggestions to help enforce BAIPA. She suggested that abortion clinics involved in late-term abortions be required to have resuscitation equipment on the premises and that staff be trained in neonatal life saving measures. Let us pray for the efforts of Ms. Stanek and all pro-lifers as they face the daily battle of helping to educate and protect the unborn. Romans 8:28. We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God …. those whom He has called according to His plan. One of our presidential candidates has made the statement, “I am not pro-abortion.” I ask what is the difference in being pro-choice and pro-abortion? Both of these positions support a woman’s right to kill her unborn child through all nine months of pregnancy. It is the duty and privilege of every voting American to examine the candidates and where they stand on important issues of the day. I firmly believe that the issues of abortion, assisted suicide and euthanasia are the most critical issues for the times we live in. We cannot continue as a free nation if we tolerate this senseless killing to continue. This is an American holocaust of enormous proportion and it is happening each day in our nation. We Americans must choose to stop the slaughter of the innocents now. If we do not and sit silently by while it continues, history will record that the guilt lies firmly on the shoulders of the American people for failing to elect leaders who have the courage to protect the sanctity of human life. An important election is fast approaching in November. We need to examine all current issues and the stand that each candidate takes on critical issues. What does God say? Psalm 139: 13-16. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Planned Parenthood thought it had an excellent television ad against John McCain when it pieced together footage of the pro-life presidential candidate saying he wasn't sure if health insurance plans that cover Viagra should also cover birth control for women.
The abortion business is running the commercial in several battleground states.
"John McCain is out of touch when it comes to women's health care," Cecile Richards, president of the pro-abortion group, said at the time the group released the ad.
"Birth control is basic health care for women. But, John McCain ducked a straightforward question about whether he thinks insurance companies should cover birth control, like they do Viagra," she said.
However, it appears Planned Parenthood is ducking the facts.
The FactCheck organization at the University of Pennsylvania conducted background research on the ad and found Planned Parenthood's own numbers refute the ad's claims.
The Alan Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood, revealed in a 2004 report that "86% of the plans that insurance companies typically wrote for employers covered the full range of approved reversible contraceptive methods."
Just two percent of the plans offered absolutely no birth control benefits.
According to Jess Henig of FactCheck, three studies conducted between 1999-2007 show a coverage rate of 40-70 percent for Viagra.
That means anywhere from 16-46 percent of health care plans covered birth control methods but not the sexual drug for men.
"While it may be accurate to claim that there exist insurers who cover erectile dysfunction drugs and not birth control, it is not accurate to imply that this disparity is common," Henig wrote. "Planned Parenthood, a major advocate for reproductive rights, should know this."
Asked to provide proof of the information behind the claims, Planned Parenthood relied on out of date data.
It pointed FactCheck to a 2003 amendment to a Congressional bill introduced by pro-abortion Sen. Patty Murray of Washington to require health insurance plans to cover contraception and birth control.
Henig said information accompanying the amendment appears to cite a study from 1993.
"By the time the Murray amendment was written, that information was 10 years out of date. Now, it's 15 years old and irrelevant, given Guttmacher's more recent findings," Henig wrote.
Jill Stanek, a pro-life blogger, commented on the findings.
She pointed out that AGI also shows that 27 states "now mandate contraceptive insurance coverage, with some allowing for religious exemptions."
"Clearly anti-choice Planned Parenthood is working with political accomplices to force 100% contraceptive coverage for two reasons: it is a major benefactor and it wants to squash moral and religious opponents," she said.
"And since when has PP let truth get in its way?"

Life Lines for August 24, 2008

In July of this year, me, my husband and three of his siblings went on a once in a lifetime trip to Alaska. Now a trip like that in and of itself is not so unusual in today’s world. However, we all drove together in our van over 10,000 miles roundtrip. We traveled through Canada on the Alaskan Highway to reach our destination. We marveled at the beauty that God created all along the way. We also learned so much more about our country and Canada. One thing that I learned from our trip that was never taught to me through a history class in high school was an event that happened during World War II. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order on Feb. 19, 1942, which gave the United States military authorization to exclude individuals from areas vital to national security. Because of the strategic location of the Aleutian Islands in the North Pacific Ocean, the U.S. government feared the islands would be a target for the Japanese military, thus the order was used almost exclusively to remove Japanese Americans from the West Coast and Alaska. Nationally, more than 120,000 Japanese Americans from Alaska, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington were ordered into camps despite the fact that no terrorist incidents had ever been perpetrated by Japanese Americans. Alaska’s Aluets were also destined for evacuation during the war through no fault of their own. Those who were relocated suffered countless hardships from lack of food, drinking water and proper shelter and many never returned to their homes at the end of the war. Most endured in inadequate camps for over three years and many died during this time. One person was quoted as saying, “The pain of mistreatment of American citizens at the hand of their own trusted government is still carried by Aleuts and Japanese Americans.” One of the legacies of internment is the hope that it will never happen again.
So, what does this have to do with life? I think it’s another example of how our own government can place so little value on human life. Abortion on demand places no value on the tiny human growing in the womb. Or, when patients are denied the simple basic needs of food and hydration in order to hasten their death. Jack Yamaguchi said in 1989, “For those of us who were forced to live there during those dark days of World War II, there are bitter memories, but for those of you who have never lived behind barbed wire under the watchful eyes of sentries armed with machine guns, may it serve as a reminder that the American ideals of brotherhood with liberty and justice for all are in continual peril if any American fails to stand up for the ideals that were set forth in the Declaration of Independence and in the Constitution of the United States.”
How many of you are ready to stand up and say stop the killing of the innocents? Are you willing to publicly and loudly proclaim that our God is a God of Life for all humans? Hebrews 10:39. We don’t belong with those who turn back and are destroyed. Instead we belong with those who have faith and are saved.

A recent survey conducted by the Pew Forum shows that 39 percent of Americans claim that abortion will play a role in determining their presidential vote. Although this percentage is down from 47 percent as recently as 2004, it still reflects well over one third of Americans say abortion plays a part in their voting decision.
Other facts revealed in the same survey found that 47 percent of Republicans say abortion is a top issue affecting their vote while only 36 percent of Democrat voters say the same. Of the voters who have not chosen a presidential candidate to support, 36 percent say abortion is important to their decision. The Pew poll also revealed that voters who regularly attend church are more likely to admit that abortion is an important part of their decision to support one candidate over another. Interest in moral values, which some voters include topics like abortion, stayed about the same as in 2004, with 63 percent saying it affects their vote then and 61 percent saying so now.
Concerning abortion itself, Pew found men and women are just as likely to be pro-life, black Americans are more pro-life than white Americans, younger voters are more pro-life than middle aged adults, evangelicals are more pro-life than mainline church members, and Hispanic Catholics are more pro-life than white Catholics.
The presidential election is fast approaching and each one of us who is of voting age will need to make a decision about our next leader. It is very likely that the next president will need to appoint more judges to the U.S. Supreme Court. Whether killing the unborn remains legal in our nation is one of the issues that could well be decided by the next judge(s) who are appointed. Will you stand up for the unborn? Song of Solomon 2:15 says, "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes." Foxes sometimes in search of food would enter into the grape orchards and devour the grapes and spoil the crop. However, the little foxes were too small to reach the grape bunches, so they would chew on the vines and it would kill the whole vine. Instead of the farmer just losing his crop, he would lose his vine, which was more disastrous. Spiritually some things we do or allow that we might think are little or insignificant can also be disastrous for us.
Listed below are some of the "little foxes" that generally keep us from our civic responsibilities, in the area of voting. The devil uses these lies and others so that he can keep godly men and women away from the polls and get the candidates of his choice elected. If we do nothing, it makes it easy for the enemy to help those who could become the wrong leadership for our nation.
"My one vote doesn't count anyway."
"I'm disillusioned by the whole political process."
"I'm already too busy to take the time to cast an informed vote, so I just don't vote at all."
"Politics are corrupt anyway and as a Christian I don't want to be involved."
These are just some of the excuses that people use to justify their failure to exercise their civil responsibility to vote. Only heaven will reveal the many opportunities that we had to change things for the better in this nation, yet, we failed to do so because we failed to use our right to vote. We do not realize the privilege we have to be able to have a voice in the choice of "who shall be our leaders and what kind of laws should govern our land." If we were to go to a country that did not afford its people this right and live under the usual dictators that rule those countries, we might be more thankful for this advantage.

Anyone who has ever written a “letter to the editor” to the Jacksonville Journal-Courier has ended up being slammed in the controversial “Open Line” section of that same newspaper. It has happened to me many, many times and I have always ignored the comments. However, the Open Line response to my letter, which was published on Thursday, August 21, 2008, has prompted me to respond, not in the Journal-Courier, but to you, my Christian friends.
Essentially, my letter to the editor addressed the answer that Barrack Obama gave to Rev. Rick Warren during the Faith Forum on when babies receive human rights. I won’t go into the details of the letter because it has been published. If you missed it, let me know and I will send a copy to you. But to summarize, I disagreed with Obama’s answer on when life begins. He hedged the answer with a non-answer. I believe that life begins at conception because God’s Word says it does.
On Monday, August 25, 2008, there was a response to my letter in Open Line and I have included it in its entirety. “The Illinois Lutherans for Life, I believe we have a right to decide what is done to our body. You people want to raise them and send them into an unjust war. Which is worse?” First of all, it is grammatically incorrect, but that is the norm in that section of the newspaper. This person makes the claim that “we have a right to decide what is done to our body. “ But do we? 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. The next point stated that we want to raise them and send them to an unjust war. It is only that person’s opinion that the current war is unjust, and we do not have a current draft. The brave men and women who are in service to our country volunteer to do so. It is their choice to serve our nation and God bless them for doing so. A baby in the womb does not volunteer to be torn limb from limb from the mother’s womb. It is the choice of the mother and her doctor to kill the unborn baby. So, “which is worse?” Does that question really warrant an answer?

Life Lines for September 14, 2008

The pro-abortion folks are always spouting off about 𠇌hoice” except when someone makes a “choice” which doesn’t fall in line with their agenda of killing the unborn. Take Bristol Palin for instance. She was thrust into the spotlight almost immediately after her mother was named as John McCain’s running mate. Why? Because she’s seventeen years old and five months pregnant and wants to keep her baby. She told her parents and they will support her with love in her decision to keep her baby. This was a choice that this courageous young lady made, but it didn’t sit well with Gloria Feldt, former Planned Parenthood president. Feldt had the nerve to suggest that Sarah Palin is forcing her daughter to keep the baby. Feldt said “She (Bristol) probably feels powerless right now. Because of her family’s attitude she probably doesn’t feel that she has a choice in terms of what will happen to her. Her mother is weaving a narrative that it’s a heroic thing of course that she is going forward with the pregnancy, she’s getting married and it will all be beautiful and rosy.”
Are you as outraged as I was when I read Feldt’s comments? Of course any person with a shred of common sense knows that not all will be rosy when a teenage woman gives birth but to suggest that Bristol Palin is keeping the child to help in her mother’s political career is beyond bizarre. It’s as if Feldt and the evil organization of Planned Parenthood believe that families who actually choose to give life and love to unplanned babies are somehow mentally deranged or they have an ulterior motive.
Planned Parenthood claims they want to reduce the number of abortions. Well, here is the first step so why don’t they embrace the idea that Bristol is choosing life for her child, not death through abortion? It is clearly beyond the realm of reasoning for Planned Parenthood and its representatives to believe that someone would actually want an unexpected baby. When a woman chooses life for her unborn child, it cuts into the profit margin of Planned Parenthood, which is already a multi-million dollar business leaving behind a trail of millions of aborted babies.
Bristol Palin will face many trials because of her decision to have her baby, but her joy will make it all worthwhile, and she’s not alone.
Isaiah 40:11. Like a shepherd He takes care of his flock. He gathers the lambs in His arms. He carries them in His arms. He gently helps the sheep and their lambs.

Today is the day! Jill Stanek, nationally known pro-life speaker will be at Salem Lutheran to speak at 6 p.m. this evening, Sept. 21. There will be a sandwich supper served at 5 p.m. with free will donations accepted and everyone is invited.
My friends, we are at a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. After killing the unborn for the past 35 years, we are poised to bring about an end to the slaughter. Christians must take a stand and elect leaders who will do the will of God and not the will of man.
If you have a heart for the unborn, you cannot sit by silently while others fight for the rights of the unborn. How can you help? Pray for our nation. Pray for Christian leaders who follow the will of God. Support pro-life groups. Speak out against the evils of abortion.
You can begin by attending the Jill Stanek event tonight at Salem Lutheran. Listen to Jill’s story of how standing up against the evils of abortion changed her life forever. Because of Jill’s commitment to Jesus Christ, she suffered ridicule and lost her job. But, her faith in Jesus never wavered because she knew what was expected of her as a Christian.
Open your hearts to what God has in mind for you in the battle to defeat abortion in our nation. Bring a friend with you this evening so they might also learn the truth.

All human life, including the unborn, are precious in the eyes of God. We cannot diminish the value of one category of human life, the unborn, without diminishing the value of all human life. Life Lines for October 5, 2008

Today, the first Sunday in October each year, is known as Respect Life Sunday. But, do citizens in our nation respect life? Some do, hopefully the majority still does, but a great number of American citizens do not have respect for human life … life created by God.
Since January 22, 1973, 50 million unborn babies have been killed in our nation upon the altar of “choice”. The choice is made for varying reasons; social, convenience, economic, and birth control are the four main reasons for abortions in our country with birth control at the top of the list. When will it stop? Who will stop it? American citizens KNOW what is happening and have failed to stop this abortion holocaust. We have it within out grasp to start the wheels to turn the tide AGAINST Roe V. Wade.
John Donne once wrote “…any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” Legalized killing of the unborn is the fiercest moral crisis our country faces today. I call it a fierce moral crisis because our unborn children are being slaughtered on a daily basis in order for abortionists and abortion mills to turn a huge profit.
One of the U.S. presidential candidates recently stated that he wasn’t sure when human life began. It is a proven scientific fact that human life BEGINS at conception. It cannot be anything except a human he was conceived by human parents. Not too hard for me to figure out! Modern medicine can now perform surgery on the unborn to correct problems weeks prior to birth. They are helping a tiny human, not a blob of tissue. The abortionist who reassembles the arms and legs of the tiny infant who was ripped from his mother’s womb can hardly have any doubt whether it is human or not.
The real question for most informed American citizens is not when life begins, but rather what is the value of this human life? Our nation is moving forward like a train locomotive toward the notion that some people can make decisions on the value of humans and do away with the ones deemed “not worthy of life.” Is this action God-pleasing? Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31)

Sunday, October 5, 2008 was Respect Life Sunday. The weather was absolute perfection as soldiers of Christ stood curbside in quiet demonstration against the atrocity of abortion. We held signs as a witness to all who passed by as a reminder of the 50 MILLION babies that our nation has allowed to be slaughtered on the altar of “choice” for the past 35 years, eight months and 13 days. The majority of motorists, who saw us waved, gave a “thumbs up” or honked in support of our witness against abortion. Only one driver was vocal with a differing point of view.
The tide has turned over the last few years and the majority of true Americans are totally against abortion on demand during all nine months of pregnancy. The effort put forth to educate the citizens of our nation on the evils of abortion have paid off. But, the battle is far from over. In fact, Nov. 4, 2008 is judgment day in my opinion. On that day we have within our grasp the ability to accelerate the day when abortion on demand for all nine months of pregnancy will no longer be the law of the land. The power is in the hands of American citizens to choose a leader who will support and protect the sanctity of human life or one who will not.
I cannot tell someone who to vote for, but I can remind voters to vote the way their conscience leads them to vote. Fr. Frank Pavone stated, "When you vote, you say something about where your loyalties are." There is nothing wrong with being loyal to a candidate or to a political party. But there is something very wrong if your loyalty to either is stronger than your loyalty to Jesus Christ. Ask yourself, "Is there a position that my party can take that would prevent me from voting the party line?" Framed in another way, the question is, "Is my loyalty to the Christian faith stronger than my loyalty to any political party?" When you go to the polls on Nov. 4, just remember the first right … is the right to life, from conception to its natural end, which is the condition for the exercise of all other rights.
Matthew 6:33. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Proverbs 25:26. Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.

There is a killing center located in Granite City, IL that goes by the name of the Hope Clinic. Why that name? It certainly doesn’t give hope to the unborn child who is about to be killed. Nor does it give hope to the woman carrying the child who will experience pain and possibly tragic medical complications, followed by guilt. That leaves the Hope Clinic as the party in the killing of the unborn with the most to gain … money!
Yes, killing the unborn is a profitable business. I checked the clinic’s website for fee information. Killing the unborn fees start at $375.00 and advance to $2000.00+. The first trimester (up to 14 weeks gestation) fees range from $375.00 to $555.00 and with the exception of first eight weeks of pregnancy which uses the abortion pill, the rest of the abortions are performed by vacuum aspiration.
Vacuum aspiration is the most common method of abortion during the first trimester. The mouth (cervix) of the womb is dilated. Sometimes this can cause serious damage because during pregnancy the cervix is closed tightly to protect the unborn baby. A hollow tube with a knife like edged tip is inserted into the womb and a strong suction tears the baby limb from limb into pieces that will flow through the tube into a container. Afterwards, the baby is reassembled to ensure that all parts were removed. From 15 24 weeks gestation, the clinic uses the two‐day D&E method of abortion. During this procedure the cervix of the womb is dilated and a curette (loop-shaped knife) is then used to dismember the unborn baby and the body parts along with its crushed head are removed by ring forceps. Once again, the baby is reassembled to ensure all parts were removed. After 24 weeks gestation procedures are on a case‐by‐case basis only.
So what happens to the babies once they have been torn from the womb without benefit of anesthesia? They are bagge and tagged and sent to medical research labs, pharmaceutical and cosmetic firms. (The Hope Clinic sends baby body parts to Washington University in St. Louis, MO).
Is the killing center in Granite City, IL God pleasing? Are you helping to stop the insane slaughter of our unborn children?

Life Lines for October 26, 2008

Today we celebrate Reformation Sunday, a time when Martin Luther brought about one of the greatest transformations in world history when he started in motion the Reformation. We Americans are a little over a week away from Election Day, a day when we will also see a transformation start to take place in our great nation, no matter who is elected president. Important decisions will be made on that day and hopefully voters have armed themselves with knowledge of how the candidates stand on issues important to the voters.
But, how many of us take the right to vote for granted? What if you were denied the right for vote? 50 million Americans will never have the right to vote because since 1973 they have been denied the first right … the right to Life! Some of those aborted children would now be working, paying taxes and raising their own family. But instead, through the decision of only seven men on the Supreme Court, our government allows the killing of the unborn. Would you support a candidate who gave his blessing to terrorism? Of course you wouldn’t and yet that same candidate may support the right to kill the unborn.
Abortion is also a violent means of killing innocent humans and is the ultimate act in denying human rights and the right to life. If a candidate says he does not support the sanctity of human life for our most vulnerable humans, how can he/she be trusted to respect your rights? The most elementary principle of our government maintains that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness … to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men.”
When abortion became legal, it broke the very founding principle of our government. That is why a candidate’s position on abortion is about more than just abortion. It boils down to the kind of authority our government has. Candidates should promote policies and laws that advance the common good and dignity of a person. If a candidate violates these basic principles, they violate the very purpose they seek for public office.
Abortion is only a portion of how human life is promoted as disposable. We have embryonic stem cell research, killing the disabled, allowing infants born alive through botched abortions to die instead of receiving medical assistance and physician-assisted suicide. All of these are moral principles that should be under the protection of our government. But instead, our government allows and promotes these atrocities to occur. For this reason, we should seek God’s guidance through prayer and His Word when entering the polling booth.
Matthew 6:33. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Election Day 2008 is only two days away now and there are many issues that will be directly affected by who is elected our new president.
One bill that is of great importance to me is titled the Freedom of Choice Act, otherwise known as FOCA. If this bill were passed by both chambers of Congress and signed by a pro-abortion president it would provide for taxpayer funded abortion on demand even late in pregnancy, grant abortionists immunity from legal action, allow abortionists the discretion to perform abortions on minors without contacting a parent and also deny health care workers the right to refuse to make abortion referrals as a matter of individual conscience or moral authority.
But this is just a wind-up for the damage that FOCA would inflict. FOCA would automatically overturn state abortion reporting requirements in all 50 states, 44 states’ laws concerning parental involvement, 40 states’ laws on restricting later-term abortions, 46 states’ conscience protection laws for individual health care providers, 27 states’ conscience protection laws for institutions, 38 states’ bans on partial-birth abortions, 33 states’ laws on requiring counseling before an abortion, and 16 states’ laws concerning ultrasounds before an abortion.
FOCA also seeks to eliminate any civil pro-life opposition in the public arena. This would not only include federal and state legislators who merely introduce legislation seeking restrictions on abortion but also against peaceful pro-lifers who pray and offer alternatives in front of abortion facilities. This is an extremely dangerous law and one of the 2008 presidential candidates has promised Planned Parenthood that his first act as new president would be to sign FOCA into law. Can we allow such a sweeping pro-death law to pass in our nation? What are we doing and saying to future generations? Future generations need to be taught the value of human life and to choose life over the culture of death.
We must stand strong against the work of Satan who wants death for everyone. Satan wants women to choose death for their children, not life. Satan desires and whispers encouragement to weak men who will not step up to the responsibility of caring for women and children. The time is now to say “enough!”

Support and Give Thanks for Our Troops
My husband and I are traveling in Colorado this week to meet and thank a very special Vietnam veteran. The veteran’s name is John Keller and he is the pilot who picked up the soldiers, including my husband Richard Strubbe, who were injured when my husband’s helicopter crashed at An Khe Pass, So. Vietnam on October 8, 1966. It has taken help from some dedicated veterans in order to find this pilot, but through the Internet we did make contact with him and he invited us to drive out for a visit. Mr. Keller is taking us to the Veteran’s Day service at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and we are both looking forward to it.The following is a tribute to the amazing American Soldier.
Always remember that as “One Nation, Under God” the United States of America is far removed from the turmoil and danger that is experienced around the world on a daily basis, and that we are so very blessed to live where we do. For this wonderful gift of peace and freedom we have only one person to give thanks to … the American Soldier.
Remember that the men and women of the United States Military have freely chosen to protect us and give us this gift and we owe them our very freedom and liberty.
It is a gift that can never be reciprocated in full, and only asks for remembrance and some measure of respect in return.
Many American Soldiers will not come home from their stations of turmoil and danger around the world to be with their families and friends for the holidays.
The American Soldier will stand steadfast and strong, continuing to protect us and fight for freedom in places around the world with conditions that we cannot even begin to imagine.
May God Bless them and their families, and may He hold them safe in His arms until they come home again.

One person CAN make difference and many like-minded souls can make a huge difference! I found this out a few weeks back when I acted upon an upsetting article I read. It seems that two hotels in New Jersey had been accused of giving significant discounts to women/girls who could prove they had had an abortion. The parent company for these two hotels was Choice Hotels, the chain of hotels that my husband and I have stayed in for the past several years while traveling. I was outraged so I wrote to the company and asked for an explanation for such a policy. (I also asked why they didn’t instead have pro-life alternative pamphlets available in the hotel lobby). The following is the answer I received.
Dear Jeanne Strubbe:
Thank you for contacting us regarding your concerns about two hotels that are a part of the Choice Hotels franchise system. We appreciate your input on this matter. We have received several similar inquires. These two hotels, like all of our more than 4,600 franchised properties in the United States , are independently owned and operated.
This means that each individual, independent hotel owner has the right to set its own local marketing policies and practices, which includes negotiating rates with local businesses and organizations. While Choice as a franchisor develops national marketing programs, rates and promotion programs such as these are set locally.
As a result of inquiries like yours, The Clarion Hotel & Conference Center, upon reflection, has ended this practice of offering special rates to patients of the Cherry Hill Women’s Center.
In addition, we have been advised by the Quality Inn in Maple Shade that any assertions of a similar discount at that hotel are false.
Thank you again for alerting us to this important issue. We hope you can now feel more comfortable about staying at our hotels.

Life Lines for November 23, 2008

Her name is Gianna Jessen and she is a survivor … literally. Gianna does not quit. Giving up is not an option to her. Gianna has what she refers to as the "gift" of Cerebral Palsy. She weighed a mere 2 lbs at birth and the doctors said she would never be able to hold up her head, sit up, crawl or walk. She began to walk by the age of three years old with the help of leg braces and a walker. Gianna doesn’t believe that her Cerebral Palsy takes away her life, but, rather, enriches it. . . she walks with a slight limp today and runs marathons. On April 30, 2005 she completed her first 26.2 mile marathon after running just over 7 hours and was presented with the coveted blank blank award! On April 23, 2006 she completed the London Marathon as well. She is now determined to run marathons all over the place, because she was never supposed to even walk!
Gianna understands the plight of orphans, being one herself. She was placed into the foster care system early on in life, eventually being taken into the loving home of a woman named Penny. Penny has been a mother to 56 foster children in her life. Gianna was later adopted by Penny's daughter, making Penny Gianna's grandmother. According to Gianna, Penny saved her life.
Gianna is a Christian. Her life was given to her by the grace of God. She shouldn't be walking, but more miraculous still; she should not even be alive. Gianna's biological mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester. Many Americans don’t realize it is legal to have an abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. After being burned alive for approximately 18 hours in the womb from the saline solution, Gianna was delivered alive in a Los Angeles County abortion clinic. Her medical records state, "born during saline abortion"...this is what caused her Cerebral Palsy.
Gianna's travels and experiences have led her all over the world. Her life has been covered by many major news media outlets, including, most recently, the BBC News and World Radio, Sky News, and The Good Morning Show in England, reaching many people with a message of hope and conviction. Gianna’s audiences include: churches - church youth crusades and women’s ministry retreats; various corporations as a motivational speaker; secular and Christian youth organizations and schools middle school age through college, as well as several times before Congress - most recently having her testimony read before the Supreme Court in Carhart v. Gonzales. Yes, Gianna is a survivor … a person of worth. She is also a human who, according to president-elect Barack Obama, should have been allowed to die after surviving the saline method abortion instead of receiving the life saving medical treatment she was given.
Romans 16:17-19. I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.

Life Lines for November 30, 2008

From a very early age, my parents always told me that I was really crazy about horses and begged for one until I finally got a pony at age six. I also really enjoyed watching cowboys and Indians on TV shows and as most you will probably remember, the good guys always won. But that’s not really true in real life, is it? Hard working folks are often over-looked for promotions and the bully in school usually gets the upper hand on the playground.
I have been thinking about good guys finishing last a lot lately in relation to the recent presidential campaign. It’s not a stretch to say that most of you have figured out that I supported McCain/Palin (mostly Palin), and of course they lost. But, it wasn’t so much about the person who won or lost, but what they stand for and represent.
President-elect Obama stands for unlimited abortion on demand among many other issues that go against every thing I believe in and stand for. So, what to do about it? Do we lament the choice in president or pray for him? I have to admit that praying for him was not my first choice of things I’d like to do, but God’s Word tells us we should pray for our enemies. Matthew 5:44. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. So, I have decided that I will pray that God will send the Holy Spirit to work in the heart of president-elect Obama to change his liberal stand on abortion. At the same time I will pray for his wife Michelle, that she will also come to know God’s will for life and be a positive influence on her husband.
Now, this was not an immediate answer to my disappointment in the election and I’m sure there will be times that I fail to follow through with daily prayers for the Obamas. It runs counter to our sinful human nature to pray for our enemies. From a human standpoint, genuinely praying for our enemies seems impossible. But I realize, the Bible says, “With God, nothing is impossible.” God often asks us to do things that go against our natural way of thinking and feeling.
So, I hope you will join in my pledge to say a prayer for the Obama’s to see the wrong of their position on abortion and develop a heart for the unborn and turn from the evil of supporting and defending abortion. Going the extra mile to pray for our enemies may seem like a tall orderand it is. But God never asks us to do anything without supplying the strength to do it. If praying for those who persecute you seems too hard, just remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:26: “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

December 7 2nd Sunday in Advent "Speak tenderly to Jerusalem" (Isaiah 40:2a) literally reads, "Speak to the heart of Jerusalem." The message directed to sin-burdened hearts comforts as no other. "Her warfare is ended … her iniquity is pardoned" (40:2b). All sinners receive comfort from this message. Those who have sinned against life particularly need it spoken to their hearts and applied to their sin. Such preaching does not offend; it frees.
“Given the climate of our times where the humanity of the unborn is denied and the value of the humanity of the disabled is questioned, it becomes more important than ever to focus on God’s gracious fulfillment of these promises (Malachi 3:1; Isaiah 7:14). For they give value to all humanity, born and unborn, healthy and frail.”

President-elect Obama addressed a meeting of our nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, on July 17, 2007 while on the campaign trail. He made a commitment to Planned Parenthood on that day. Well, the first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act,” Obama said at a meeting of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “That’s the first thing I’d do.”
But, what does the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) really entail? The legislation, which would legalize abortion-on-demand in all 50 states and U.S. territories, says that “this act applies to every Federal, State and local statute, ordinance, regulations, administrative order, decision, policy, practice, or other action enacted, adopted or implemented before, on, or after the date of enactment of this act.” And it prohibits interference with reproductive health services, including abortion and "in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services and information." The Freedom of Choice Act, if passed, would establish the right to abortion as a fundamental right (such as the right to free speech) and wipe out every current restriction on abortion nationwide.
It would deprive the American people in all fifty states of the freedom they now have to enact modest restraints and regulations on the abortion industry. FOCA would coerce all Americans into subsidizing and promoting abortion with their tax dollars. In addition, FOCA would not allow any interference with reproductive health care/services, including abortion and in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services and information. To break this down into simple terms, FOCA would force faith-based hospitals, (Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, etc) and health care providers dependant on federal funding to either provide abortions or lose that funding, which would most certainly result in a closure of these facilities.
Pro-death groups, including Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America, have hailed FOCA as legislation that would protect Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion in the United States. This alone should startle pro-life Christians from their current deep sleep regarding the evils of abortion and raise up a collective angry voice against such legislation. But, what does the Bible have to say about laws that are contrary to the will of God? Acts 5:27-29 "Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. 'We gave you strict orders not to teach in this Name,' he said. 'Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood.' Peter and the other apostles replied: 'We must obey God rather than men!'"
From this, we can plainly see that as long as the law of the land does not contradict the law of God, we are bound to obey. As soon as the law of the land contradicts God's command, we are to go against it and boldly protest the law of the land, while submitting to God's law. However, even in that instance, we are to accept the government’s authority over us.

Life Lines for December 21, 2008

Last week I spoke about the Freedom of Choice Act and some of the devastating consequences it would render on our nation if it passes into law. I want to point out some more things to think about concerning the proposed legislation because the language in this proposed legislation is far more liberal than most Americans would think possible.
The elite news media would prefer to keep the majority of Americans in the dark as long as possible. But this bill is so sweeping that it would eliminate virtually every pro-life law previously enacted by Congress and state legislatures. It would void the bans on partial-birth abortions that life-supporting folks fought to hard to pass and get through the courts. It would also eliminate any parental notice and consent laws and also eliminate the informed consent laws for women.
In addition, it would FORCE taxpayers to pay for elective abortions, which could lead to more abortions resulting in additional deaths at the hands of abortionists. At the heart of FOCA is President-elect Obama who vowed to Planned Parenthood on July 17, 2008 to pass this legislation as his first act as the new president. Obama is so radical in his pro-death views that he voted AGAINST protecting babies who survived an abortion while in the Illinois state senate. An ally in Obama’s radical agenda to promote further killing of the unborn is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Together, they will fight hard to enact their dream of passing FOCA into law.
Stay alert to the work of the devil. Everyone who has a heart for the unborn must rise up and take a stand against FOCA. Call and write letters to boldly express your opposition to such legislation.

Life Lines for December 28, 2008

I have chosen once again to write on the subject of FOCA, the Freedom of Choice Act. President-elect Obama still has a little over three weeks until he is sworn in as the 44th president, but already he has received his marching orders from his liberal ‘death for the unborn’ supporters.
It seems on December 10, 2008, the Obama transition team received a 55-page memo from his radical liberal allies setting forth the kind of decisions and actions that are expected of the Obama administration. Douglas Johnson, legislative director for National Right to Life stated that “This document is a road map to what we call ‘the Obama abortion agenda.’’’ It seems that the ‘death for the unborn’ supporters of Obama sent a neat, tidy little 55-page package and even included the exact language of presidential orders that the lobbying groups want Obama to sign. They called upon Obama to sign into law the radical FOCA as soon as it lands on his desk. (He already pledged to do that on July 17, 2008 to Planned Parenthood.) The group went even further in the memo to instruct Obama that it should repeal the Hyde Amendment, and include an ABORTION MANDATE in a health care reform bill within his first 100 days on the job. (They just can’t wait to kill more babies!!)
Longer-term goals included, besides passage of FOCA, packing the federal courts with judges who are PRE-COMMITTED to vote with the pro-death side. The memo also requests that Obama STRIKE ALL LIMITS on taxpayer funded abortion in various circumstances. The memo went on to further instruct Obama to STRIKE LANGUAGE RESTRICTING ABORTION FUNDING for Medicaid-eligible women and Medicare beneficiaries, federal employees and their dependents, residents of the District of Columbia, Peace Corps volunteers, Native-American women and women in federal prisons. Pro-death groups want additional funding directed to so-called “family planning programs,” meaning more money in the pockets of Planned Parenthood, which posted $1 BILLION in income in its last annual report. The memo calls on directs Obama to appoint only ‘death for the unborn’ judges to the Supreme Court and lower federal courts. The memo goes so far as to include the actual text Obama should use for Executive Orders and Presidential Memorandums, legislative language changes, new regulatory initiatives, and a list of judicial vacancies.
The list of marching orders goes on and on, but the point is, we must stand up and make our voices heard against the very real danger in FOCA becoming law. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” This is a great quote and very timely for what we are facing. But, I believe the bible says it better. James 4:17. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.
Take the time to write to our leaders in Washington and let them know that you are against FOCA. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
